In between turns of a fierce battle of Cranium last night with family and friends, I managed to watch snippets of the Grammies.
Alicia Keyes. I love her to death, and it was no surprise that she won best R&B album, but what was up with that fauxhawk updo and the ugly green dress? She is such a beautiful girl, she could make a paper bag look good, but seriously....I'd love to see her in something at least flattering for once. Sharl had a good comment though...he said he likes the fact that she can't dress or dance overly well because it means that all her talent lies in the actual music.
Rhianna. I think her new do looks a bit rocker and I love it. But what was up with that lacklustre performance of Umbrella?? I'm probably going ot be blasted for saying this but it was a touch reminiscent of Britney Spears' comeback. I'm not saying she sucked like Britney but... a little energy perhaps? Just to let us know that you're actually feeling your song.
Carrie Underwood. Beautiful girl with a great voice. Wasn't the Stomp-esque entourage a strange choice for background dancers?
Beyoncé & Tina. Beyoncé looked really radiant and beautiful. Tina looked HOT and superfit for her age. Tina's choice of outfit? Not so much. She looked like the tin man in that silver lamay jumpsuit!
Fergie. How much botox can her face handle? Her face reminds me of Kristy Alley. Didn't love the dress either, but she had an interesting choice of song. John Legend is awesome.
Kanye. Singing in tribute to his mother was very touching. It felt so sad and I thought he would he would have choked up with tears. And during the album of the year reveal, what was up with that little jab from Usher? "There are no losers, here...Kanye." And then the award goes to....(camera flash to Kanye in solemn prayer)...Herbie WHO?? Kinda came out of left field.
Feist. Best new artist nomination. Toronto represent! I think she rocks...with her simple acoustics and ethereal voice she sounds just as amazing live as she does on record. And was that a shag rug she was standing on?
Will I Am. Um....why did they call him Professor Will I Am? Am I missing something here?
Amy Winehouse. This was my most anticipated performance. She looked a LOT better than I had seen in recent pictures. But her legs were really scary. They looked like frail granny legs. And I kept trying to figure out whether she was high or not. And just as I was saying, "Ah...I guess it would have been too ironic for her to sing Rehab.." she starts singing it. Her expression for winning Record of the Year was classic. She looked so speechless, tearful and so grateful. :) "Fank you very much." She's totally deserved it.
That's pretty much all I saw, or at least to my recollection. Can't wait to watch the fashion commentary tonight. Love it.
And just as an aside since I didn't get to see the whole show...was Britney Spears even AT the Grammies?
