Happy Family Day!

Family Day has to be one of the greatest additions to the Ontario statutory holiday list. February…usually one of the coldest, dreariest, most depressing of the winter months was suddenly a little warmer and sunnier with the added holiday Monday.

Sharl and I took advantage of the long weekend by heading up to Blue Mountain for a ski trip with 2 other couples. One of our friend’s parents have a condo right in the ski village within walking distance to the ski lifts.

Saturday was THE perfect day for skiing. It was so sunny and not too cold. Sam and Jules made perfect ski buddies for me since we all have similar ski abilities… fairly beginner. However, by the last hour, we managed to move up from the bunny hill to the 3rd level ski lift!

After skiing, we warmed up at the condo in the sauna, where Jeff ‘surprised’ us with a beer shower. After dinner, we warmed up even more with alcohol and we cozied around the fireplace and played an slightly incoherent game of Cranium.

Sunday we got up early to hit the slopes only to find out that it was pouring rain outside. This sucked because Sam and I were ready to master this ski slope called “Big Baby.” I know it sounds like scary stuff. Instead, we were fortunate enough to get a refund on all of our rentals. The guys decided to spend their money at the pub, and the girls decided to go to Le Scandinave…an outdoor spa in the middle of the forest! It was bliss. We were outside in our bikinis in the middle of a freezing rain storm submerged in pools with hot waterfalls, eucalyptus steam rooms, and saunas. I even braved a Nordic plunge after which I practically hurled myself back into the hot pool. We spent all afternoon at the spa and it did wonders on my sore leg muscles from the day before.

Back at the condo we relaxed even more with tequila, played some Euchre and wrecked havoc in the ski village for some dinner and dancing. We were all in hoodies and big boots, which made it all the more fun.

When I got back to the condo at the end of the night, I don't know if it was the alcohol doing it to me, but I started to feel pretty sappy inside. I kept looking at Sharl and feeling like I was the luckiest girl in the world to be married to such a loving, kind and patient husband. Throughout the whole weekend he did everything to make sure I was smiling and having a good time. Even though I had been down lately and going through some difficult stuff, he's been nothing but amazing to me and I felt so grateful to have him. Anyway... tipsy as I may have been...I remember thinking about how much I loved him all the way until I fell asleep.

A ski and spa weekend with family and friends…what better way to spend Family Day? I could definitely make this a new tradition!
