The weekend felt quiet now that the holiday celebrations are over.
Saturday, morning, I took down all of our Christmas decorations. We still have our bare tree in the house, because we're not quite sure what to do with it yet. IT looks so pathetic. I don't really want to call our building management to ask becuase I am not 100% sure if we are supposed to have real Christmas trees in the condo in the first place. Ignorance will mean that I can get a tree next year as well!
I spent the afternoon as usual with my mom. We went for facials and then went to this congee restaurant for lunch afterward. After some grocery shopping, I came home and Sharl and I cooked a homemade lasagna for dinner. We called over some friends and made a fun night out of it.
Sunday after church, I taught a private lesson and then Sharl and I decided to hit the GYM. It was my frist time this year, and it was not that bad. I started off slow with 20 mins of jogging on the treadmill, 15 mins of yoga stretches and some freeweights. I suppose I could fit this into my schedule more regularly. At one point in my life I was pretty good about gymming. But then I was deluded into thinking that salsa dancing was an acceptable replacement.
It's just really hard to start back up, because I didn't know where to start and I feel embarassed that I can't do what I used to! Anyway..I decided to just take it easy with no pressure, just to get a routine in motion, and worry about upping the intensity once I get used to it again.
After the gym, Sharl and I rented some movies. I absolutely LOVED this movie called "Interview" with Steve Buscemi and Sienna Miller. It almost felt like watching a theatrical play because it takes place in one night, two locations and only two actors. The story is essentially about a political journalist, Pierre, who has a falling out with his boss and is stuck with writing a fluff piece on this young soap opera actress, Katya, who is also known for her slasher horror movies. Katya arrives to the interview an hour late, and appears very self important. Pierre clearly feels above this gig and attempts to half-heartedly interview her without having watched any of her shows, movies or doing any research on her. Katya seems insulted and annoyed that while people are asking for her autograph left and right, this journalist seems completely disinterested in anything she has to say. Later, the scene moves to the actress's loft where Katya and Pierre continue to argue, trying to one up eachother with their dramatic stories and battle of wits and underlying (disturbing!) sexual attraction. It was really interesting to watch...the only thing was that I was searching for some kind of revelation of truth about the characters and was left a little disappointed at the end. Really worth the watch if you like b films. Even if you don't...it's still amusing.
