I woke up with that bad sore throat feeling which means I was not able to avoid getting sick this winter. Boo! My first instinct was to ransack my medicine cabinet for Otrivin. I CANNOT live without nasal spray when I’m sick. I become a nasal spray junkie.
Anyway, at least I didn’t feel these symptoms over the weekend, because it was a weekend of yum eats. Home made peri peri chicken, homemade beef curry (which I now know how to make!!), and Terroni’s pizza.
Yesterday, instead of going to the gym, Sharl and I went rock climbing for the first time. We took a quick introductory lesson where we learned how to tie ourselves into our harnesses with a double figure-8 knot, and also how to belay. It was so much fun! I never considered myself a granola girl (especially since everyone there had dread locks and nose piercings), but I seriously want to do it again soon. It brought me back to my childhood where my favourite thing to do was climb trees. The best part of it was climbing really high and then rappelling down like Spiderman.
My upper arm strength is pretty weak though, and I was only able to climb up partway up a 5.7 difficulty wall. As soon as there were any outward slants in the wall or small no-grip rocks or rocks out of my reach, I would fall.
We watched this awesome climber do an impossible-looking upside down climb, and when the climber rappelled down, we saw that it was a woman! She was amazing!
Today, my inner forearms are really sore, and I’m having trouble pulling my desk drawer open and any other motion that requires my fingers to pull (doors, etc). I hope I can eventually build my strength to climb more difficult walls next time I go. Now I know what the big deal is about rock climbing.
