Sharl and I went to this Ethiopian restaurant called Adis Ababa, and it was soooooooooooooo good! I think I've found a new favourite type of cuisine.
When asked what it tastes like, it's hard to describe since Ethiopian cuisine hasn't been largely influenced by other cultures. Most of the dishes are some kind of flavourful and colorful meat or vegetables with a stew consistency called 'wot.' It's very tasty and spicy, but not overpowering. You can also order the dishes 'mild.' I was actually suprised to find a lot of children at adjacent tables sopping up their dishes expertly with the injera.
Sharl ordered lamb, and I ordered doro wot (chicken in a spicy red pepper sauce). The meals were served one large round communal plate atop a round spongy pankcake like bread called "injera."
You're given a hot towel to wash your hands becuase no utensils are given! You eat by ripping pieces of the injera bread and scooping up the meat and sauce with your hands.
OHhhhh man... so yummy. I can't wait to try it again.
