I knew this was coming...
I have been prescribed a detox diet.
I've never been on a health kick before. I used to think people who didn't eat red meat or obsessed with diets or incorporated flaxseed and brown rice into their daily regiment were living a deprived life. But here I am with a list of grocery items I can only find by stepping into a -health food store-. I wouldn't say my eating habits are overly unhealthy. I cook a lot at home, I choose healthy fresh food items at the market and eat fresh vegetables, but I never restrict myself from eating anything that I want to. In moderation.
I just LOVE food more than anyone I know.
So as I sat down with my ND sat me down with a $50 detox kit and a $50 bottle of probiotic supplements and explained what I was to do for the next 2 weeks, I was slightly intrigued but also a little disappointed. It was definitely an education for me to learn all about nutrition and such. She studied me and designed a gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free, red-meat free detox diet that I must follow for 2 weeks to rid my body of toxins and to help me to properly digest my enzymes.
My detox diet
Morning:
Drink 1 mug of hot water with 1/4 lemon shortly after waking up.
1 tbsp ground flaxseed (mixed in fruit smoothie with rice milk)
1 probiotic capsule
Throughout day:
20 drops each from 3 bottles of detox kit mixed into 1.5L water bottle.
6 glasses of lemon water (I've hardly ever drink more than 3 glasses of water TOTAL in a day. Originally, this was supposed to be 9 glasses of water, but she took "mercy" on me.)
Afternoon:
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar before lunch
Evening:
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar before dinner
1 probiotic capsule
BANNED FOODS:
Citrus (except lemons), bananas, tomatoes, melons, strawberries, white rice, semolina, wheat, rolled oats, dairy (milk, cheese, butter) soy (soysauce, tofu, tempeh) beef, pork, tuna, canned meats/fish
I'm not sure how good I wil be. I'm not looking forward to it, or to the breakouts that the doctor said might occur on day 3 or 4. :( I haven't had a zit in a long time now. This detox starts Sunday.
