Lovers and other Strangers

It seems like everyone has some sort of opinion about Valentine's Day whether they rant that they absolutely LOVE it and go all out or whether they hate it for its overly-commercial cheesiness or it's attempt to make single people feel alienated. Whatever the case, everyone I talked to had have SOMETHING to say about the day. Even as a disclaimer.

I think Valentine's Day is a nice concept...a yearly booking in the calendar reminding everyone to do something special with the one you love. However, I think that maybe the rants that people go on about whether they love or hate the day comes from the pressure that seems to radiate from the occcasion. Pressure to be in that perfect relationship, pressure to be happy, pressure to be in love and even pressure to plan out perfect date. I think that if you just try to spend the day as normally as possible, your natural sweet side will emerge.

I had a lovely Valentine's day. Last night, I found a chocolate bar under my pillow from Sharl. At work, we sent out candy grams. Today, I came home with a big solid chocolate kiss for Sharl. Nothing over the top. In fact, we did not even spend the evening together. Sharl had a basketball game and I went to a fondue party with at my HC...which by the way was a LOT of fun! There was so much food and it was nice and relaxed which was perfect since everyone is still in the process of getting to know one another. So I spent the night talking with some really great people. I think we are all starting to become real friends. :) It's a nice feeling.

After HC, Dave and Winnie came over after their date and hung out at our appartment for a bit. When they left, Sharl and I spent the rest of the night watching LOST. To me it was the best way to spend the day...a mix of husband, friends and family!
