Rudeness Rant
Saturday afternoon i had an appointment for a massage at a spa my mom got me gift certificates for. I'd been looking forward to it because i went out salsa-ing the night before and my legs were pretty sore. Anyway, I presented the gift certificate which my mom purchased from the Mississauga News Auction. The receptionist took the card and handed me a locker key. I went into the change room, which smelled like rice and some kind of marinated meats, i suppose from a lunch they were serving and I proceded to undress. Suddenly, the receptionist barges in with my gift certificate in hand and exclaims, "Sorry. This expired. You can't use it." And she swipes the locker key out of my locker. Just like that."I thought it was good for 3 months. i got it in November and it's only February."She points to the card where it reads Feb 03, 2007. It is 7 days overdue.Slightly shocked, I ask her, "Well how much is the massage regularly?" I'm surprised that she doesn't even suggest that I pay instead of ushering me rudely out of the change room like a criminal."Seventy dollars," she replies briskly."Well there's already money that has been payed into buying this certificate. It must be worth at least something," I contest."No, if you want to work something out, you'll have to call Mississauga News Auction. It's not our problem."Kind of embarassed being half dressed, I just wrapped up my conversation with her as quickly as I could and booked it out of there. Then on the way home, I started to get fuming mad. How DARE she treat me like a second class citizen. This was the RUDEST and WORST customer service I've ever received. I booked the appointment 2 weeks ago and she didn't even offer to go ahead with it anyway, or even suggest I pay the difference. WORST! I got all huffy and was going to call back and speak to the manager and complain about the RUDEST service ever. Instead, I call my mom and told her the story. She was appalled and said, "Give me back the card and I'm going to write a 2 in front (so that it looks like it expries the 23-Feb instead of 03-Feb) and book an appointment for next week."
Birthday Beats (....dance beats, that is!)
It was Jen's 25th bday last week, and this Saturday we went out partying! Jen looked so happy. It had been way too long since we'd all gone out, and I think everyone ended up having a great time. This was the first "regular club" I'd been to in a while. I've been teaching salsa and going to salsa clubs 3 days out ofmy week week that I almost forgot how to dance normally. Sharl and Bella were making fun of me for accidentally throwing in some salsa styling during hiphop songs. I think from now on I will have a perma-latin flair in my dancing. I can no longer help it! It was funny coz on on Friday I went out with my dance friends and we were having the MOST fun dancing the night away....but then the DJ eased into some Reggaeton and hiphop and suddenly everyone kinda stopped and didn't seem to know what to do. I realized right then that most of them weren't into hiphop/reggae so dancing was really funny. Those who were mere moments ago, dancing superstars now looked awkward and at odds. Then once the salsa/merengue/bachata returned, so did everyone's smiles. Hopefully I haven't gotten to that point yet.
Anyway, thanks, Marissa for the pics. My camera is out of commission since Xhosa chewed the cord to upload pics to the computer.
Sunday, EmC and Andre were kind enough to invite Sharl and I out for one of the last nights of Winterlicious. Now I know that while some restaurants embrace the idea of having new patrons visit their restaruant, other restaurants do not appreciate it at all. I guess they don't like the fact that all the non-regular-restauranteurs come out, only order off the set menu and are too cheap to buy drinks/wine etc., and stiff them on tips. Maybe some of the finer restaurants don't like to lure suburbians downtown to taste the city's wares, or perhaps they dont like to dumb down their menu into a steak chicken and fish option. Whatever the reasons may be, there is NO excuse for snobbery and bad service in a restaurant. There are a million places to eat downtown with great food and good atmosphere, and get this....good service too. Not everyone who goes to Winter/summerlicious events are out eating at a restaurant for the first time. I've had both good and bad experiences with these "licious" events but the rude service experiences are enough for me to blacklist a few restaurants whose food might have otherwise impressed me enough to visit again.
