Today, I went to Cavallaro's Bakery with my grandmother and her three friends because they were buying some plain sauce pizzas (absolutely the best stuff only found in Montreal!). The shop was super crowded, being one of the only stores open on the holiday weekend, and people were fighting for service. As I walked down the bread counter mindlessly browsing through the loaves, while I waited for my grandmother + friends to finish with their purchases, I looked up to see all 5 attendants (all men under 30) at the counter were staring at me eager to help serve me...but I wasn't buying anything. The other women in the store were not amused, and became quite angry with the attention they were giving me. One particularly impatient and unamused woman remarked in French, "would you now like to help the PAYING customers, or do we need to regress twenty years?" And I got the stare-down... from all of the women in the bakery! My grandma and her friends thought the whole thing was hilarious, but I was very embarrassed. I was with my GRANDMOTHER for goodness sakes.
I have now been officially named the young hussy from Toronto.
Happy Canada Day everyone.
