culture shock

My parents went to Indonesia and they brought my grandparents back with them. They'll be staying here for a couple months. I haven't seen them in like 15 years, and I can't believe how much they've aged. I can't really communicate with them because I can't speak their language but they seem really nice. My Oma is always cooking up a storm. I'm starting to like Indonesian food, but now everytime I come home, my house smells really strange. Firstly, becuase we're not used to cooking with really strong spices, and secondly, becuase my mom hardly ever cooks, period. All of a sudden my house doesn't feel like itself anymore. i can't understand the conversation that takes place, there's spicy rice dishes made for breakfast, and my house now smells like a mixture of mothballs and lemongrass. I feel like a foreigner in my own home. Even today when I was sitting in class, I opened my purse and out wafted some spicy scents. Even sharl commented that I smelled like Chinese soup the other day.
I think he really meant exotic and sexy.
