I helped start a rukkus today at work. I came into the office, and smelled gas, or paint or something, so I asked around if anyone else noticed it. They all agreed, and we decided to go outside for some air. (It smelled bad!) One lady decided to call security to have someone check it out. By the time we got downstairs, more people started to follow us. And pretty soon, the whole facade was crowded with people outside and onto the sidewalks. Before we knew it we hear fire trucks sounding the alarm all the way down Yonge St. to St. Clair Ave. NOt one, not two, but FIVE fire trucks lined up pulled up to the curb facing the opposite direction of traffic. Piles of firemen wearing gas masks went into the building and were in there for a good half hour. Turned out that the motor of a rotary fan had burnt out and was leaking fumes throught he air con vent. So we had to wait half an hour before going back inside.
It was a beautiful sunny morning, so no one seemed to mind the disturbance. And to think that it all started with one sniff and a simple question..."What's that smell?"
Torontonians really like to freak out over the smallest things and cause a huge panic.
