I am a spoiled North American. I don't realize that some things I don't give a second thought to or that take for granted can directly affect others elsewhere around the world. Buying and wearing Nikes, downloading music, taking pictures, sending un-censored mail, freely speaking my mind, etc. Social responsibility and ignorance. I am a fool.

Today in class we discussed an article by Jean Beaudrillard that basically stated the Western culture is doomed because we are so concerned with making ourselves comfortable that we have lost our history and our values have become so watered down. So much so that we cannot even pinpoint the exact moment that this fatality has happened. We are so wrapped up in ourselves that we fail and don't care to see the bigger picture around us. We only care about the now.

McLuhan predicted that we will return to a tribal state.

On a lighter note, I'm going to watch Havana Nights tonight with my best friend. I miss the chillin feeling of being in Cuba. Maybe the movie will evoke old memories.
